There are so many ways you can tone and tighten your body with yoga, but it’s difficult to know where to start! Yoga is an effective tool for weight loss, and when done correctly and often, can tone up the least favourite parts of your body and turn them into your most loved parts. Yoga uses core muscles to strengthen and supporting muscles to tone, and when combined with mindfulness, becomes an effective way to tone your body! So in this article, you’ll find 5 poses that will kickstart that beautiful journey to tone and tighten your body with yoga.
Tone and tighten your body with yoga
There are certain yoga poses that will tone and tighten quicker than others. A stretch based pose like a forward fold, or a relaxation pose like childs have beautiful benefits, but alone will not be enough to tone your body. Instead, poses that challenge main muscle groups are the ones to go for. You can also try out the combination of two modalities, for example HIIT and Yoga or ROGA for an even quicker and more effective way to tone and tighten your body with yoga.
It’s important to keep in mind though, that any practice or exercise will struggle to be enough to tone and tighten your body! A healthy diet, a regular practice, and mindfulness all play a part in supporting the growth and health of your muscles.
That being said, there are certainly poses that will pinpoint and target those muscles we love to tone, and will do so effectively! Try the poses out below, and feel the burn…
5 poses to try this week
So here’s a wee challenge for you! The poses below are all designed to target different areas to tone and tighten up your body with yoga and build a powerful yoga habit. Give them a go and you’ll be feeling it after!
This is great for bums, thighs and core. Come in and out of chair 15 times and do it for 3 rounds, taking extra care with your breaths. Bring the weight back into your feet, squeeze through your bum and engage your core. For added toning, reach your arms up to the sky!
Best for strengthening backs! Lie on your belly with your arms by your side, palms face down. Squeeze through your bum and thighs. As you breathe in reach your legs up to the sky and hold! Again, try this 15x for 3 rounds.
My fave way to tone and tighten your body with yoga! Be mindful of holding your lower belly muscles in (you can do this by laughing and noticing your abs activate) and keeping your chest open. Lower and lift 15x for 3 rounds!
This ones for the arms! Keep your elbows hugged into your body as you lean forwards. Keep your core tight and bum squeezed and repeat 15x for 3 rounds. Phew!
This one is for your entire body, it works your arms, shoulders, core, bum and thighs. Be mindful of keeping your front knee stacked over your ankle and your hips facing out to the long edge of your mat. Breathe in this position for 1 minute, 3 times.
You’ve got this! Try these out each day this week (do them all each day if you’d like!) and combined with good nutrition, consistency and a bit of variety between types of yoga and you’ll have found a fantastic way to tone and tighten your body with yoga.
